  • Karsh Patel updated a blog entry 1st XI - Kenton CC v...

Overcast weather, wet ground, damp wicket and little preperation... yes, Kenton 1st XI were back for their first home fixture of the season. After a well earned 1 point draw last week against Uxbridge, the boys knew they had some work to do if they were going to challenge for promotion.

New skipper Schopun Jooma lost this toss and Kenton were put in. So based on this we thought it would be a disaster, and after losing Schops in the second over we certainly thought it was a clear sign of our poor luck. But Jonny Mills and Sachin Patel dug in, and saw us through the first 20 overs 1 down for 78. Unfortunately for us, our poor luck caught up with us, and with a middle order collapse including 2 run outs (shocking!), we ended up 6 down for 126 from 35 overs. Kenton welcomed back Sohail... but not for long. With only a maximum 20 overs left to bat, The low-middle order kicked in - a quick fire 31 from a generally/permanently out of form Trushal and a steady 36 from Deepak the veteran saw Kenton up the run rate towards the 50 over mark. Just as things started to smooth out, the veteran got a full toss at his head, hooked it and was caught on the boundary... whats even more shocking is that the umpire claimed he 'didn't see it' and so Deepak had to walk!! Schops looked to declare at 50, and Chetan couldn't help but show off his guns after hitting a few big'uns! Kenton finished on 222-9.

After an extremely large quantity of food (for some) we came out to field. Amaan the pilot was very tidy and helped Chetan get off to a flyer. Chetan took 2 wickets in his first 5, North London were 20-2 from 10, and then 46 for 2 from 20. Things werent looking good for them, looks like they were happy with the point. Debutant Viran Parmar got his bowling boots on, but was promptly advised to take them off after struggling to find his areas. But patience doesnt last very long for MCCL club cricketers, and North London found themselves 5 down fow 103 after 30 overs. Sami and Chetan (and Sachin and Karsh) kept plugging away at the opposition, and eventually Kenton had 6 overs to take 3 more wickets for the win. A rare 1st XI bowl for Sachin Patel saw him bowl an 8 ball over, with some balls bouncing several times before reaching the edge of the square (oh dear)! Karsh also got an over... some beautiful leg spin coming out there ;) North London managed 178-7, Kenton got the 4pt draw. Good result for Schops and his men, hopefully 10 next week!

Next week the 1st XI travel away to South Hampstead. PS... he didn't like it when we called him leprechaun... or angry bird...
