MCCL Weekly Round-Up: Gameweek 12 of the 2025 season

MCCL Weekly Round-Up: Gameweek 12 of the 2025 season

Rahil Patel29 Jul - 08:21

Here's how we went this weekend in the league and Middlesex Trophy…

After last weekend’s fixtures were washed out due to torrential rain, the boys were determined to bring home the points this weekend.

Kenton CC 1st XI vs Winchmore Hill CC 1st XI

The 1s hosted Winchmore Hill and with some former members back at the club to watch, were hoping to put on a show. 1 man did just that with the bat. Kalps with his 101 off 120 balls, an innings which included 13 fours and 1 six. His first century at home and you could see how much it meant to him. He was supported greatly by Akshay as they put on 122 for the 4th wicket after we were struggling at 17/3. With the ball, Dyls took 3 and Asif 4. Asif bowled with raw pace towards the end with 3 clean bowled wickets however WH held on for a draw at 199/9 after 45. Felt like 10 points dropped rather than 2 gained but still firmly in the hunt for promotion. Special mention to Nihal Halai, wicketkeeper/batsman who made his 1s debut in this game.

Kenton CC 2nd XI vs Wycombe House CC 2nd XI

The 2s travelled to Wycombe House and were also batting first. After being 70/3 after Viraj's 34, the boys posted a mammoth 322/8dec as Qudratullah Khiyal hit his 2nd century of the season with 120 off just 90 balls supported by Waz’s 84 off just 67 balls. Quad hit 13 fours and 6 sixes, striking at 133.33 while Waaris hit 6 fours and 6 sixes, striking at 125.37. So good to see Waaris back playing matches and scoring runs straight away. Ajmal and Yashil do what they do best with the ball and we had then 153ao. Big win by 169 runs and 12 huge points for the 2s.

Kenton CC 3rd XI vs Finchley CC 3rd XI

The 3s hosted Finchley 3s at home. Prish had the ball swinging round corners as usual to take his tally to 21 wickets for the season as he took 4 and reduced Finchley to 18/3 early on. The rest supported and they were 187ao as Vijay took 2, Vishal and Zaki 1 each, and also 2 runouts for Saif. Jonny (44), Saif (38), Dan (35) and Soneji (31) helped us chase with ease, leaving it to Vishal and Kushal on his 3s debut to get us over the line by 4 wickets. Big win for the 3s after a couple of losses and still top of the table.

The 4s travelled to Hornsey to take on their 3s and were bowling first. Bowlers found it difficult early on however Mihir with his leg spin took 3 and we were chasing 233. We lost wickets at important intervals despite 29 from Pranav Dave, 21 from Pranav Shah and 20 from Raj and Sahil. Mihir, the iceman once again and U14 Neil on senior debut blocked out as we held on for a losing draw. Mihir ended 6* (27) and Neil 0* (31). Great fight and heart shown by those two as well as Ravi. Losing draw, 1 point gained but those points add up come the end of the season.

Onto Sunday, cup time vs Chiswick and we were bowling first after losing the toss. Two more debuts as Puneet Pattni and Kaushlendra Singh debuted for the 1s. They started well as their opener Flavell raced to 95 before debutant Puneet removed him, good catch in the deep by Milind. Kalps took 3 wickets and we were chasing 257 in 45. After Hem’s 44 we were in trouble at 115/7. This is when Owen and skipper Dylan Assani took the game to Chiswick. They turned the game around with their 127 run partnership before Owen was dismissed on 85 off just 67 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes in the process. Milind hit the winning runs as he came out and hit 3 boundaries to finish the job. with the man for the big chases, Dyls at the other end on 40* off 52 balls, an innings which included 5 boundaries and semi-final bound are the 1s.
