MCCL Weekly Round-Up: Gameweek 3 of the 2025 season

MCCL Weekly Round-Up: Gameweek 3 of the 2025 season

Rahil Patel2 Jun - 18:11

Here is how we did on the back of our 40 point weekend last week...

Kenton CC 1st XI vs Winchmore Hill CC 1st XI (A)

Our 1s made the trip to Winchmore Hill looking to make it 3 successive wins. In Dylan's absence, Schopun Jooma led the side. Having won the toss, we were fielding first. Cedric Mendes and Asif Mohamadi opened up looking to pick up early wickets. However, on a great batting surface this was not the case. Hill batted exceptionally with all batters making significant contributions. In particular, opener Jim Gatting scoring 128. At 188/3, there was a possibility of sneaking our foot in the door however their number 4 and 5 took them all the way to the end. They ended up on 310/3 from 45, a steep chase, but not impossible. Hem Shah took 2-56. However, with Schops battling through injury, we could not get the start he usually gives us. As the required run rate rose we lost wickets at important junctures. Shoutout to Kalpesh Kerai for his fighting knock of 61 from just 63 balls. Unfortunately we ended 243 all out. The boys will be looking to bounce back next week.

Kenton CC 2nd XI vs Wycombe House CC 2nd XI (H)

Our 2s took on Wycombe House at the Alan Digby Ground. Skipper Roshan lost the toss and we were batting, hopeful to put a big score on the board. The innings however, did not start well and we were 71/5. However, youngsters Qudratullah Khiyal and Nihal Halai dug in and batted with patience and built a solid partnership of 89. Nihal was then dismissed on 39 and Qudratullah soon followed for 45. We ended 210 all out, under par but with the bowling attack we had, still confident we could defend it. Jameel and Tejpal took 2 each but they chased it 2 wickets in hands. 2 points earnt but it felt more like 8 points dropped.

Kenton CC 3rd XI vs Finchley CC 3rd XI (A)

The 3s travelled to take on Finchley 3s looking to make it 3 wins out of 3. Having won the toss and Jonny decided to field first. In truly treacherous batting conditions, the Finchley batting went nowhere. Ajmal Jabarkheil bowled fantastically for his 6-31 in 11.2 overs. Supported by Prish Roy who took 3-24 in 9. Vijay Prajapati took the last wicket and a clinical bowling performance had Finchley just 67 all out. Vishal Patel got us going in the chase with 2 quick boundaries before being dismissed. At 12/3 there were a few nerves, but the cool, calm and composed Kaushlendra Singh took us home with an unbeaten 23 to take us home by 4 wickets. 3 wins in the bag for the 3s, hoping to make it 4 next week vs Ealing 4s.

Kenton CC 4th XI vs Hornsey CC 3rd XI (H)

The 4s hosted Hornsey in a top of the table clash. Skipper Dippy won the toss and we were fielding first. Hornsey batted well throughout the innings on a great batting surface to score 283/7 in their 45. Zakirullah Khiyal once again pick of the bowlers, taking 3-60 in 12 overs. A great start to the season for the youngster. Onto the chase and at 76/4, the innings required stability. This is what was provided by Ankit Shah and Manoj Prasanga. Manoj was run out for 45 before Ankit was bowled for 46. Unfortunately, we were bowled out for 252 and handed our first loss of the season. Close game, lessons learnt (hopefully) and onto next week away to Twickenham.

Kenton CC CV XI vs Chorleywood CC CV XI (A)

Our Sunday CV XI began their campaign with a trip to Chorleywood CC. Youngster Hem Shah took over from Dyls as captain. A big moment for Hem, and a testament to our colts section that we are always looking to grow! Skipper Hem lost the toss and we were fielding. Chich (yes the 1st XI wicket keeper!) took the new ball along with Rajiv Soneji (you read that right he was opening the bowling, not just the batting). Chich claimed 2 wickets however Hem leading from the front took 4-22 in 10 overs with his left arm spin. Shoutout to Karan Pandya for claiming his first competitive Kenton CC wicket! A lower order fight back had allowed Chorleywood to get to 222/7 in 45 overs. In the chase and Jonny Rye and Soneji opened up, they got off to starts, as did Puneet Pattni but were unable to kick on. A 57 from Nihal Halai and 39 from Chich got us close however not close enough and we lost by 8 runs. Great fightback from the lads but Hem will be looking to claim his first win as captain in 2 weeks time vs Eastcote at the Alan Digby Ground.
