MCCL Weekly Round-Up: Gameweek 4 of the 2025 season

Rahil Patel3 Jun - 07:29

Here is how we went in Gameweek 4 of the MCCL season, the penultimate round of the first set of overs games.

Kenton CC 1st XI vs Ealing Trailfinders CC 1st XI (H)

The 1s hosted Ealing Trailfinders at the Alan Digby Ground, looking to return to winning ways. Skipper Dylan Assani returned to the side however he lost the toss and we were fielding. A top bit of fielding early on from Tejpalsinh Jadeja, making his 1st XI league debut, gave us an early breakthrough and Dyls followed up with a boomerang to dismiss their number 3 first ball. We continued to chip away at the ETCC batting line-up and had them 87/8 in no time. 2 for Dyls, 2 for Tejpalsinh and 2 for Charles Erdwin meant we had ETCC 154 all out, after again some lower order fight. Onto the chase and Schops released all the pressure with his fast start, racing to 37 off just 23 balls. Akshay and Abbas were unfortunately dismissed, however the composed heads of Kalpesh Kerai 37* (66) and Owen O-Neill Khaled 54* (52) saw us over the line comfortably by 7 wickets. Early finish for the 1s and 10 important points! The 1s will be looking to make it 4 wins out of 5 next week as we take on Harrow CC!

Kenton CC 2nd XI vs Chiswick CC 2nd XI (A)

The 2s made the long trip to top of the table Chiswick, also looking to return to winning ways. Skipper Roshan won the toss and we were batting first. Things did not start how we wanted, as Nihal was dismissed early followed by the returning Viraj Patel out of retirement (can't keep him out the game too long!) Youngster Hem Shah dug in and scored a well made 43, however once him and then Danushka were dismissed, things were looking bleak at 67/7. Shafiq Mohammad returned to the club this season and what an impact he had in his first game back! A blistering 76 (65), an innings which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. He was supported by Utkarsh Sahu who made 24 and Milind Kamdar who made 32. Milind and Shafiq put on 90 runs for the 10th wicket, helping us get to 209 all out from out of nowhere. The defence started well with Ajmal Jabarkheil bowling tight lines and building pressure. Utkarsh Sahu then came on and ripped through the Chiswick attack and took 4-7 in 7.1 overs. It was a real team effort as every other bowler took 1 wicket each to bowl Chiswick out for 118. Proper team win and a huge 10 points for the 2s! Roll on next week as we host Stoke Newington CC 2s!

Kenton CC 3rd XI vs Ealing CC 4th XI (H)

The 3s hosted Ealing 4s at the Alan Digby Ground looking to make it 4 wins on the bounce. Prish Roy was stand in skipper this weekend and he started by losing the toss. We were bowling but Prish believed it was a good toss to lose. He opened up with Prithvi Nakrani bowling tight lines and building pressure. Prish got the first breakthrough before he rang the bowling changes and brought Vijay Prajapati and Vishal Patel into the attack. 64/1 quickly turned into 74/5. The spinners were then brought on to finish the innings and Pranav Shah did just that taking 3 wickets. Onto the chase and after Rajiv Soneji fell early, followed by Bishan Shah, the partnership of Puneet Pattni and Kaushlendra Singh took the game away from Ealing. Puneet anchored with 68 off 83 balls but it was Kaushlendra who was the aggressor, amassing 63 runs in no time at all off just 31 balls. An innings that consisted of 5 fours and 5 sixes! A couple of wickets falling meant it was left to Samit Patel and Pranav Shah to finish the game. 10 points in the bag, still unbeaten and top of Division 1 are the 3s! Here's hoping the 3s can make it 5/5 next wee vs North London CC 3s.

Kenton CC 4th XI vs Twickenham CC 3rd XI

The 4s made the long trip to take on Twickenham CC 3s. The pitch did not look great and batting conditions were treacherous. This was evident in the game. Dippy lost the toss and we were bowling first. Raj Parmar opened up and what a spell he bowled! 7-29, bowling 11 overs on the bounce, bowling serious heat. Zakirullah Khiyal took 2 and Vinay Halai 1. 84 all out. The chase started off well, as Ehtesham Yusuf and Vraj Bhatt had us 34/0. It was all downhill from here as we collapsed to 62/8 out of nowhere. Fighting knocks from youngsters Vinay and Zaki tried to get us close. So close yet so far however as we were 79 all out. Many lessons to be learnt as we go again next week vs North London CC 4s.
