On Saturday the top of the table 3s faced third placed Ealing 4s in what was expected to be a tough contest. Upon seeing the deck, it looked very green and very soft from some midweek rainfall, and it was obvious there was no roller at this ground, so the toss would be an important factor in the game. Unfortunately the call of heads did not work and we were batting first on said deck. It's times like this that we appreciate the pitches we get courtesy of Manoj at the Alan Digby ground.
So we were batting and found ourselves 1 down in the first over with Searan knicking off. Saif followed shortly after, and at 10-2 there were maybe some thoughts of a quick game, however through the captain Rye and the overseas Kaushlendra, we put together a big partnership, with both making half centuries and the score going into drinks was 134-2, and those earlier thoughts of a quick game were now turning to thoughts of 12 points. However these thoughts were short lived and we collapsed after drinks, ending up 171 all out, which given the platform we had built, we should have scored more than that.
With the ball we struggled to make inroads early doors, and the pitch started to dry out which made the ball come onto the bat more and Ealing duly capitalised, chasing down 171 in just over 30 overs only 4 wickets down.
Not our week, we left a lot of runs out there with the bat which is the main area for improvement looking ahead to the rest of the season. The big games keep coming with North London (h) next week and all still to play for. Bring it on.
