Having had glorious weather so far this season (last weekend's rainout aside) we hosted Finchley 3s at the Alan Digby ground on what was initially a pretty grey overcast Saturday. Given the overheads the skipper had little hesitation in bowling first upon winning the toss. The usual opening pair of Prish and Vish got to work, with Prish making a couple of early inroads, one with a jaffer clipping the top of off, and another with a juicy full toss that got an inside edge onto pad and looped to Zaki at short mid wicket, they all count the same. Saif, back in the team after a year-or-so long hiatus from playing announced himself with a run out from 'deep' cover when they attempted a single to him on the short shared boundary at KCC. All in all it was a solid effort from the lads with the ball and in the field, we took our chances and managed to bowl Finchley out for 187 in 45.2 overs.
Heading into the second innings the grey skies that had greeted us in the morning had long since departed for sunny skies in the mid/late afternoon, and batting on the bottom square became (relatively) easier in the second half of the game. Saif got us off to a flier with some booming cover drives, including a six over extra on the aforementioned short boundary. His quick fire 38 (30) gave us the impetus we needed and got us ahead of the rate so that the skipper could well and truly block the shit out of it much to the annoyance of the Finchley wicketkeeper, which only incentivised me to block and leave the ball as much as possible. When Rye got out for his anchoring role 44 (82) shortly after drinks, Soneji was well set to carry on the anchor role, at which point Danushka came in and hit a flurry of boundaries to bring us close to the total. A couple of late wickets made Kusal and Vish come in to knock the last few runs off and seal the win.
After a couple of defeats in the past few weeks, the team enjoyed getting back to winning ways and extending their lead at the top of the table. A solid all-round team performance from everyone which we need to back up against Ealing 4s (a) next week.
