On Saturday the 3s hosted North Midd 4s on their last game of the season. With the prospect of rain around, some people were saying the rain would come at 3pm, others 5pm, the only logical decision was to bowl first upon winning the toss, which is what happened.
Utkarsh and Prish opened the bowling, Prish got an early breakthrough but after that a partnership started to form, no thanks to a couple of half chances going begging. In this time it became apparent that pace on was easier to play on the road of a surface we were playing on. Abhishek got the all important breakthrough with an lbw, then the rest of the North Midd batting line up fell to a trial by spin with Utkarsh and Pranav taking the rest of the wickets. Pranav in particular deserving of plaudits for his spell of 5-18, who has gone unrewarded for some good spells in recent weeks. Cricket has a funny way of balancing itself out. We bowled North Midd out for 153.
In reply, after a short turnaround, I thought we would only get about an hour's worth of play before the rain came. We were able to get ahead of the rate against the new ball which came onto the bat very nicely. It was then a question of getting 20 overs in to get a result. Thankfully the rain held off for long enough, and after we had crossed the 20 over threshold the game was won, with Punzo and Kusal putting the finishing touches on the game and the season.
Good to end the season on a high note for the 3s. We have played some good cricket this year, and have established ourselves as one of the strongest teams in this league which bodes well for the future. I have had a lot of fun captaining the side and would like to thank all who have graced the field for us this year.
